Harlem Hospital, Mural Patient Pavilion

New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC)

A spectacular 429-pane back-lit curtain wall recreates images from a Works Progress Administration-era Vertis Hayes Mural as the signature feature in this $265 million, 195,000 gross square foot New Patient Pavilion project for Harlem Hospital Center.

The project included extensive site work, parking modifications, new operating rooms and emergency department, new intensive and critical care units, demolition of the out-patient building and nurses residence building, and also included renovation work to both the Ron Brown Building and Martin Luther King Jr. Building. The project received an Honor Award from the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

The project was completed on March 2014.
