Governor Cuomo Announces $47.2 Million in Funding to Strengthen Health Care in Long Island
NEW YORK (July 19, 2017) – Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced $47.2 million to support 13 projects that will protect and transform Long Island’s health care system. As part of the $491 million Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, this funding will improve patient care through the development of high-quality medical facilities and programs serving the inpatient, primary care, mental health, substance use disorder and long-term care needs of communities throughout New York State.
“Now, more than ever, we need to protect health care in New York and ensure the system in place is meeting the needs of current and future generations of New Yorkers,” Governor Cuomo said. “While others seek to decimate our hospitals and reduce access to quality healthcare, we are investing to help ensure a stronger, healthier New York for all.”
The following providers will receive funding:
- Advantage Care Diagnostic and Treatment Center – $1,210,745
- Brookhaven Health Care Facility – $200,000
- Brookhaven Health Care Facility – $1,520,940
- Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rockville Centre – $137,375
- The Eastern Long Island Hospital Association – $1,656,650
- Family and Children’s Association – $679,675
- J & P Watson (D.B.A. Interim Healthcare of Greater NY) – $349,000
- Jacqueline Delmont, MD, PC (D.B.A. Delmont Medical Care) – $1,480,782
- Mercy Medical Center – $7,325,000
- Nassau Health Care Corporation – $25,000,000
- Pederson Krag Center – $1,255,000
- SCO Family Services – $933,000
- WSNCHS North (St. Joseph’s Hospital) – $5,460,000

Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said, “Encouraging more New Yorkers to avoid costly, time-consuming, and often unnecessary trips to an emergency room by investing in other medical facilities is a common sense way to improve patient care. Utilizing state funds to advance programs serving New Yorkers’ primary care, mental health, and substance abuse needs will streamline the health care process, provide communities with better services, and save money. This investment is a win-win for New York, and I commend the Governor for taking action.”
The funding was awarded under the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, which was enacted as part of the FY 2017 Budget. Additional funding was made available in the recently enacted FY 2018 Budget.
The program is administered by the Department of Health and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York and will help support the objectives of the Delivery System Reform Incentive Program. The purpose of the Delivery System Reform Incentive Program is to reduce health care costs and improve the health outcomes of New Yorkers by expanding access to inpatient, primary, preventative and other ambulatory care services as part of regionally integrated healthcare delivery systems. The Delivery System Reform Incentive Program primary goal is to reduce avoidable hospital visits by 25 percent by 2020. The Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program awards are also focused on projects which will help ensure the financial sustainability of safety net healthcare providers, and the preservation or expansion of essential health care services.
New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker said, “Investing in the infrastructure of New York’s healthcare system will yield dividends for the millions of residents who rely upon these vital services. This program will help motivate providers to develop new and innovative services that both improve the quality of care and create a health care system that saves taxpayer dollars down the road.”

President and CEO of the Community Health Care Association of New York State Rose Duhan said, “Today’s awards reflect the Administration’s commitment to helping FQHCs and other community-based providers to expand access to affordable, high-quality primary and preventive health care in high-need areas of the state, which is central to New York’s health care delivery system and payment reform efforts. These funds will allow community-based providers to participate more meaningfully in transformation activities, including integration of services, reimagined care coordination models in preparation for value based payment, modernization and expansion of facilities, and solidification of new and existing partnerships to address social determinations of health.”
