Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that funding is available from the new $100 million Building Recreational Infrastructure for Communities, Kids and Seniors (NY BRICKS) capital grant program. Governor Hochul secured this funding in the FY 2026 Enacted Budget to support municipalities and nonprofit organizations in building or renovating community centers that promote physical health, mental well-being, and community connections for youth and older adults. NY BRICKS will offer grants of up to $15 million to fund design, construction, renovation, and land acquisition for these centers. Priority will be given to projects in underserved communities, as well as those offering affordable services like childcare, eldercare, and mental health counseling. The program aims to make transformative, high-impact investments in local communities.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the completion of construction and dedication of the new $8 million Utica Children’s Museum, which is part of an overall $14 million ICAN Family Resource Center project. The 14,000 square foot museum features exhibits designed as exciting play-based experiences with many benefits to children — from school readiness and career exposure to increased socialization and quality time with family and friends. Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the availability of capital grants to expand services for organizations that serve veterans, service members and military families. At least $1.35 million is available through the third round of the Veterans’ Nonprofit Capital Program distributed by the New York State Department of Veterans’ Services and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York to support efforts to expand and enhance quality services available to the state’s veterans, service members and military families. $3.65 million in grants to 57 qualifying veterans organizations statewide was previously provided through the first two rounds of this program. These investments build on the Governor’s support for veterans, service members and their families, and her FY26 Executive Budget included enhanced veteran suicide prevention programs and an expansion of support for gold star families.
SHELTER ISLAND, NY – The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) has financed a $9.5 million transformation of the Shelter Island Public Library, expanding the 1965 building by approximately 4,500 square feet. This marks the first major renovation in the 138-year history of this community institution.
