Stephen Curro, P.E. Appointed Managing Director of Construction
Manages 350 Employees; $Billions in Projects Statewide
The Board of the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) today unanimously appointed Stephen D. Curro, P.E. as Managing Director of the Authority’s construction division.
Curro, a seven-year Dormitory Authority veteran, assumes daily management responsibility for the construction division’s 350 employees - - the Authority’s largest division - - and a portfolio of nearly 700 construction projects statewide with a combined value of $6 billion. Until his appointment as managing director of construction, Curro served in the construction division as head of Construction Support Services where he supervised project administration and construction phase services, job cost accounting and reporting, and software design and implementation, among other responsibilities.
David D. Brown IV, DASNY executive director, said: “I have every confidence that Steve has the right mix of talent, experience, leadership and drive to successfully move our construction division forward. Steve’s private and public-sector experience, strategic vision, management strength and communications skills make him uniquely suited for this position.”
Curro, 45, is a registered professional engineer in Rhode Island and New York. Prior to coming to DASNY in 2001 he worked for a number of engineering and construction firms in New York, including Smith & Mahoney, P.C., and C.T. Male Associates, P.C. He is an adjunct professor in the Civil and Construction Technology Department at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
He succeeds James Gray, who will continue with the Dormitory Authority in a senior role. At today’s meeting, the Board unanimously approved a resolution (attached) commending Gray for his long and continuing service, and for the significant achievements of the construction division under his watch.
DASNY’s construction division provides construction project management services for a wide array of projects to the State University of New York, City University of New York, the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, the Office of Court Administration, the state departments of Education, Health and Mental Hygiene, special education schools, private colleges and universities, and private-sector hospitals.
As head of the construction division, Curro will be charged with leading the Dormitory Authority’s “All Green-Only Green” initiative in which all new DASNY construction projects will be registered with the United States Green Building Council as LEED Silver buildings featuring high levels of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Curro received a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1984 from the University of Rhode Island. He earned a Master’s of Engineering in Civil Engineering in 1990 and a Master’s of Business Administration in 1993, both from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Curro lives in Niskayuna with his wife, Abby and their four children.
