BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Officials from SUNY College at Brockport and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) began construction of a $16.7-million, 208-student townhouse-style residence hall in a groundbreaking ceremony today at the Plateau Field construction site on New Campus Drive.
Dormitory Authority Senior Project Manager Rick Bianchi joined SUNY Brockport President John R. Halstead, Robert Stark of Chaintreuil, Jensen & Stark Architects and Planners, and Dave Christa of Christa Construction LLC to move some earth and talk about the new residential living facility. The Dormitory Authority is overseeing the project design and construction on the campus’ behalf.
“This is a great day for SUNY Brockport and our students. This will be a first-rate, state-of-the-art facility and a new standard in campus living. These town homes will employ the latest technologies to make them environmentally and energy-friendly for the 208 students who will make their home here. It is our intention to create learning and living environments that students will remember as an important part of their SUNY Brockport experience long after they’ve left the College,” President Halstead said.
Each of the 50 townhouses will include a full kitchen, dining room, living room, four bedrooms, two full baths and a washer and dryer. They will be fully furnished and equipped with Internet access, air conditioning, cable television and access to convenient parking.
“We believe that the new townhouse complex will be a dramatic addition to the campus and an exciting living option for SUNY Brockport students,” Mr. Bianchi said.
Chief Project Manager Jennifer Parsons and Field Representatives Richard Hansen and Jeffrey Teeter lead the Dormitory Authority team on the project.
Architect Stark said, “Our hope is to create a neighborhood with streets and landscaped park-like green spaces where students can gather.”
Plans call for the first group of students to move in for the fall 2007 semester.
