SUNY Brockport, DASNY Outline New Dorm Plans

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Dormitory Authority staff participated today in a meeting with students to show details and renderings of a new $15.7 million dormitory for the State University College at Brockport.

SUNY Brockport Interim President John B. Clark and project architects Ann Chaintreuil and Robert Stark, of Chaintreuil, Jensen & Stark Architects and Planners, joined Authority Chief Project Manager Richard Allison and Project Manager Richard Brokaw to discuss the project, which will house 200 students in apartment-style residences.

Each of the 50 apartments will include a full kitchen, dining room, living room, four bedrooms and two full baths. Apartments will be fully furnished and equipped with Internet access, air conditioning, cable television hookups and convenient parking.

“We’re very excited about this new addition to the SUNY Brockport campus,” President Clark said. “It will expand the variety of living options for students while meeting the growing demand for quality campus housing.”

Mr. Stark said his firm wants to provide more than a housing complex. “What we’re aiming for is to create a neighborhood with streets and landscaped park-like green spaces where students can gather,” the architect said. His firm presented a 3-D animated video walk-through of the complex.

The Dormitory Authority will finance the project through the sale of bonds, and will supervise construction. Principal and interest on the bonds will be paid from students’ room rents. “We’re pleased to assist SUNY Brockport with this dramatic addition to the campus,” Mr. Allison said.

The Dormitory Authority will put the project out for bid in the fall. Groundbreaking is planned for May 2006, with students moving in for the fall 2007 semester.
