New Dorm Opens at Morrisville State College
MORRISVILLE – Morrisville State College held a ceremony today to open Fountain View, its newest residence hall, designed and construction through the Dormitory Authority.
Fountain View is the 10th residence hall on this Onondaga County campus. The dormitory houses 88 students, is coed by floor and has 44 single rooms, 19 split-double rooms and two split-triple rooms. The building integrates single or partitioned rooms around an open-air center courtyard. The design provides students with more privacy, but it also offers them a campus community. Each floor has a student lounge, and the building has one conference room. Fountain View is built with wireless transmitters so that students can utilize the campus’ wireless technology to connect to the Internet and campus network at any time.
“This type of residence hall enhances students’ privacy, but still allows them to feel like they’re part of a community,” noted Interim Dean of Students Geoff Isabelle. “It’s a great middle ground.”
Senior Project Manager Timothy McGrath represented the Authority at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. He thanked Michael Nataluk, head of the College’s facilities department, for this staff’s support and cooperation. He acknowledged the “innovative design and diligent participation in the project” by Bob Zilch of Joy McCoola Zilch Architects and Planners of Glens Falls.
“Granger Construction Company – particularly Mark Turley and Ed Visconti – worked hard to bring the project to completion,” Mr. McGrath said. “It was a long tough winter in which to try and complete a project, and it took a strong effort toward the end to wrap the project up.” The firm is from East Syracuse.
For the Dormitory Authority, Ayaz Lari was the Project Manager, with Rick Sweeney and Joseph Wilszinski as Field Representatives.
