Lake Shore Health Care Center managers have saved thousands with a new co-generation system.

The Dormitory Authority and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) are pleased to announce a new partnership to help mutual customers develop innovative energy-saving projects. Energy efficiency helps our customers protect the environment and save money - often so much that the savings offset project costs within a short time.

The new partnership allows our customers access in one step to the services, expertise and financing available through both authorities. Together, the Dormitory Authority and NYSERDA will help customer s find the necessary technical and financial assistance to turn ideas into money-saving, energy-efficient projects.

Through a collaboration last year at Lake Shore Health Care Center in Chautauqua County, the Dormitory Authority and NYSERDA helped the hospital install a new energy-efficient cogeneration plant that now saves the hospital more than $160,000 in annual energy costs. This one project demonstrated the potential for both authorities to provide innovative solutions for customers using the resources of both.

The partnership is working on a joint effort for the State University of New York at New Paltz to include a NYSERDA consultant as part of the design team to incorporate "green building" concepts in a new residence hall. Recognizing the importance of these energy-saving technologies, the Authority has long-wanted to offer green building services to our customers. NYSERDA provides the expertise and know-how to make this happen through this new partnership.
